1376 1st Avenue is a 5-story, 18-unit old law tenement building located in Manhattan's Upper East Side, built in 1910 and currently owned by David Schwartz. The building has experienced several significant issues related to basic services and safety systems in recent years.

Most notably, there was a cluster of heat and hot water problems in February 2022, with multiple tenant complaints and emergency inspections required to confirm restoration of services. During that same period, Apartment 6 was found to have multiple safety concerns, including missing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as issues with self-closing doors and scalding hot water temperatures exceeding 130 degrees. More recently, in October 2024, violations were issued for failing to file required high-pressure inspections for both internal and external systems, with similar violations dating back to 2018 also noted.
