The 16-unit, 5-story tenement building at 508 West 158th Street in Washington Heights, built in 1905 and currently owned by Aaron Lowinger, has experienced recurring heating system issues throughout 2025, with multiple complaints about lack of heat and hot water affecting the entire building. The most recent service requests in May 2025 followed a pattern of earlier complaints, many of which HPD could not investigate due to access issues.

In addition to the heating problems, there are currently two open plumbing complaints regarding toilet issues from February 2025 that remain unresolved. The building has several notable violations and maintenance concerns as of September 2024, including infestations of mice and roaches reported in apartments 2 and 31, respectively. Additionally, there are multiple open housing maintenance code violations related to safety equipment, including missing smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in apartment 31, as well as inadequate gas supply to kitchen fixtures.

A September 2024 inspection also cited an issue with a self-closing fire door at the west fire door in the public hall. The building's heating infrastructure has a problematic history, with emergency violations in 2021 including excessive soot and fumes in the boiler room, though these were ultimately resolved. While the building has consistently passed rodent inspections since 2015, there have been no reported bedbug infestations in the past five years, as evidenced by the bedbug reporting system showing zero affected units in all recent filings from 2021 to 2024.
