The 5-story, 8-unit OLD LAW TENEMENT building at 2040 Amsterdam Avenue, owned by Jose Urena, has experienced several maintenance issues in recent months. Most notably, in October 2024, multiple violations were documented including problems with walls, windows, floors, and unsanitary conditions involving pests.

Specific issues were identified in Apartment 22, including defective vinyl floor tiles, issues with window counterbalances, plaster and paint damage on ceilings and walls, leaky bathtub faucets, and a reported mice infestation.
