820 Hewitt Place is a 3-story, 144-unit residential building located in the Longwood neighborhood, owned by Ilsoo Kim and constructed in 1986. The building has experienced several recurring maintenance issues in 2025, with the most significant being multiple heat and hot water complaints, including emergency situations in April and June 2025. In May 2025, there were multiple complaints requiring inspection, including issues with a smoke detector, water leak, doors/windows, ventilation system, and paint/plaster on walls.

Unfortunately, HPD inspectors were unable to gain access to conduct these inspections, though they did attempt to follow up with residents through cards and letters. A rat sighting complaint in June 2025 was investigated by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which found no violations. The building has undergone several tenant safety and compliance inspections under Local Law 188/17 between 2023-2025, with multiple instances of inspectors being unable to gain access during initial attempts.

However, some inspections were completed with no violations noted. A boiler issue was documented in May 2023, resulting in a violation being served. There have been no reported bedbug infestations in the building during the 2022-2024 reporting periods, with all records showing zero infested units. While the building has passed recent health inspections and bedbug reports show no issues, the pattern of maintenance complaints and inspection access challenges in 2025 indicates ongoing communication or access issues between residents and management.
