The two-family house at 1837 Patterson Avenue in Clason Point, owned by Wilmington Savings Fund Society, has experienced recurring heating and hot water issues over the past two years. Most notably, in January 2023, the entire building faced heating problems that resulted in violations being issued by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).

This was part of a pattern, as similar heating complaints had been filed in December 2022, though HPD was unable to access the building for inspection on those occasions. In January 2023, there was also a general cooking gas complaint, for which HPD conducted an inspection but issued no violations.

The heating and hot water issues appear to have persisted over several months, with the January 2023 complaints remaining open until June 2023. The building, constructed in 1940, has been through multiple emergency-level complaints regarding its heating system, particularly affecting the entire building as well as individual apartments. While some of these issues were eventually resolved, as indicated by the closed status of the complaints, the repeated nature of the heating problems and the access issues encountered by HPD inspectors suggest an ongoing challenge with the building's temperature regulation systems during this period.
