The 3-unit, 3-story residential building at 1144 Havemeyer Avenue in Unionport, owned by Varkey Pallithazathu and constructed in 2002, has experienced recurring heating and hot water system issues over the past several years. Most notably, there were multiple emergency complaints regarding heat and hot water problems in 2021 (February, September 4, and September 7), resulting in violations from the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD).

These included specific issues in apartment 2FLOOR related to inadequate hot water supply, as well as violations regarding locked access to the building's heating system in both the basement and boiler room, for which some violations remain open as of 2025.
