The two-family house at 1034 Esplanade in Morris Park, owned by Hamid Ali, has experienced a series of concerning maintenance issues over the past two years, with particular attention needed to recurring heat and hot water problems. Between January 2022 and April 2025, there have been at least five documented heat and hot water complaints, three of which were classified as emergencies affecting entire or individual apartments.

The building also has an ongoing rodent issue, evidenced by multiple complaints between 2023 and 2024, with violations noted by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Most significantly, there are serious violations related to unauthorized modifications in the building's basement.

In July 2023, the Department of Buildings documented work without permits, including the construction of full-height partitions, installation of bathroom facilities, additional electrical lines, and a gas line for a stove. These alterations purportedly converted the basement into a Class A apartment, complete with a bathroom, kitchen, and two bedrooms, despite official records indicating the building as a two-story, two-family structure with an ordinary basement. The building has undergone multiple inspections regarding these issues, with a Partial Vacate Order served in July 2023, and the violations remain active as of the latest available data through October 2023.
