The 4-story, 7-unit building at 562 Atlantic Avenue in Boerum Hill, owned by Mark Schildkraut, has been experiencing recurring issues with garbage and recycling storage conditions throughout 2025. Since January 2025, there have been at least eight documented complaints to the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) regarding unsanitary conditions related to garbage storage.

While most of these were inspected and found not to violate HPD's housing laws, several violations were issued between May 17 and May 22, 2025, suggesting ongoing challenges with waste management. The building also faced a plumbing issue involving the bathtub/shower reported in February 2023, though inspectors were unable to gain access to evaluate the problem.

Of particular concern is the recent rodent activity noted during inspections in March and April 2023, with violations recorded by the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
