The four-story, eight-unit residential building at 149 Stanhope Street in Bushwick, owned by Joseph Lax and completed in 2020, has experienced recurring maintenance issues over its brief history.

Most recently, in July 2024, multiple complaints were filed regarding conditions of paint and plaster in both walls and ceilings, as well as a water leak resulting in a damp spot; however, inspections by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development found no violations in any of these cases. The building's construction period in 2020 was marked by several Department of Buildings complaints related to safety compliance, training compliance, and construction permits, with multiple Oath Violations served between April and June 2020, and one instance of the inspector being unable to gain access in March 2020.

Prior to these recent maintenance issues, the only other notable complaint on record was regarding standing water in July 2019. On a positive note, the building has maintained a clean record regarding bedbug infestations, with no reported cases between November 2022 and October 2023, showing a consistent pattern of zero infestations since the building's completion.
