1581 Pitkin Avenue is a three-story, two-family residential building constructed in 1930 and owned by Mouris Zakaria, located in the Brownsville neighborhood of Brooklyn. The building has experienced several notable issues over the past few years, with the most significant concerns arising in 2021 when multiple violations were documented during an August inspection.

These violations included the need for carbon monoxide detector repairs in apartment 2, and safety concerns regarding encumbrances in public areas including bicycles and household items in the 2nd-story hall, as well as a dresser, door, and other items in the 3rd-story hall. There was also a violation related to obstructive items on the bulkhead staircase leading to the roof, and a maintenance issue with a defective kitchen cabinet in apartment 1. Prior to this, in early 2019, there were multiple electrical-related complaints filed with the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), including issues with wiring and outlets/switches, though these complaints were closed with no violations issued.

A construction-related complaint was also filed and closed in March 2019, with no violations warranted at the time of inspection. More recently, in early 2024, the building reported no bedbug activity for the previous year (November 2022 - October 2023), with no units infested, eradicated, or reinfested during this period. While some of these issues have been resolved, it's important to note that as of the date of this report, several violations from the 2021 inspection remain open, though there have been no reported bedbug issues in the most recent period.
