334 Herzl Street, Brooklyn, NY 11212

The three-unit, three-story building at 334 Herzl Street in Brownsville, owned by Janet Howard and built in 2005, has experienced several maintenance issues since 2022, with the most significant concentration of problems occurring in late 2022. During this period, multiple complaints were filed and investigated by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) between August and December 2022, including issues with water leaks (both heavy flow and damp spots), electrical problems with outlets/switches, door/window concerns, pest infestations, and problems with walls and ceilings requiring paint/plaster work.

Notably, in September 2022, multiple violations were documented in Apartment 3, including issues with window guards, pest infestation, ceiling and wall paint requirements, and water leak problems. While many of these complaints were closed, some violations remain open as of the most recent inspection records.

The building experienced a significant paint/plaster complaint in December 2022 that was not able to be inspected due to access issues, and there have been two annual bedbug reports filed (for the periods 2021-2022 and 2022-2023) indicating no infestations, though an open violation from September 2022 related to pest infestation in Apartment 3 suggests prior issues. As of now, there are still multiple open violations from the September 2022 inspection that require attention, including repair needs for water leaks, plaster surfaces, paint work, window guards, and pest control in Apartment 3. An April 2024 inspection also noted a violation regarding the annual bedbug report filing requirement, indicating that the building has experienced some ongoing compliance issues.
