The two-family house at 70 Hendrix Street in Cypress Hills, built in 1910 and currently owned by Chinedu Agu, has experienced a troubling pattern of heating and hot water issues over the past year, particularly during the winter months of late 2023 and early 2024.

Three separate complaints were filed regarding heat and hot water problems, with the most recent occurring in January 2024 and affecting the entire building. Each incident was categorized as an emergency situation under the Housing Maintenance Code.

While two of the complaints (December 2023) resulted in violations being issued after HPD inspections, there were instances (December 11 and January 2024) where HPD was unable to gain access to the apartments for inspection, with the agency suggesting that if the conditions persisted, new complaints should be filed. The repeated nature of these heating system complaints over a relatively short period raises concerns about the building's maintenance and heating infrastructure, particularly during the cold weather months when such services are critically important for resident comfort and safety.
