1281 Nostrand Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11226

This three-story, six-unit New Law tenement building located at 1281 Nostrand Avenue in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens was built in 1931 and is currently owned by Harry Magloire. The building has experienced multiple maintenance issues in recent months, with a cluster of complaints received in January 2025 including unsanitary conditions (pests), electrical problems (no lighting), appliance issues (refrigerator), and various plumbing concerns affecting sinks, toilets, and water supply.

While HPD inspections were conducted for many of these complaints, most were found not to violate housing laws, with the exception of at least one pest-related violation requiring owner correction. The building has a history of plumbing and maintenance issues, with several violations in Apartment 2L identified during an August 2024 inspection, including problems with window guards, lead-based paint, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, self-closing doors, and peeling paint in the bathroom. Notably, a bedbug complaint was filed in 2024 showing no active infestations during the previous three reporting periods (2021-2024), though violation notices for failing to file annual reports were recorded in 2021-2024.

Rodent inspections have shown varying results, with recent inspections (including July 2025) passing, though earlier inspections in 2013 showed rat activity. A 2022 complaint about an illegal conversion was recorded but the inspector was unable to gain access to complete the investigation. The building's maintenance record shows a mix of addressed and ongoing issues, with multiple violations marked as open during the most recent inspections requiring owner attention.
