1768 79th Street is a three-story, six-unit New Law tenement building built in 1931, currently owned by Jeffrey Chan. The building has experienced several significant safety and compliance issues in recent years, most notably in 2023 when multiple Class C violations were issued for defective fire retardant materials in the ceilings and walls of apartments 1F, 1R, and 2F, along with a serious fire safety violation requiring immediate provision of fire guard services due to hazardous conditions.

The Department of Buildings (DOB) also documented these fire safety concerns, noting that apartments 1F and 2F had been "completely gutted to the wooden studs and joist" with fire safety system failures.
