The four-story, 23-unit residential building at 1556 Dahill Road, built in 1926 and classified as a New Law Tenement, has experienced several significant maintenance issues over the past year. Most notably, there was a pattern of heating and hot water problems in late 2024, with multiple complaints filed between November and December that affected both individual apartments and the entire building.

These issues resulted in several Housing Maintenance Code violations being issued, including inadequate hot water supply in apartments A1 and C4, and missing or defective smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in both apartments. A concerning safety issue was reported in May 2025 regarding a broken or missing window guard, which resulted in an HPD inspection that could not be completed, requiring tenants to refile the complaint for proper evaluation. The building has also faced structural challenges, most notably documented in late 2023 when there were complaints about building shaking and a defective retaining wall that was documented by the Department of Buildings.
