1946 East 8th Street is a 3-story, 6-unit New Law Tenement building constructed in 1931 in Sheepshead Bay, currently owned by Albert Gross. The building has experienced several recurring maintenance and safety issues over the past decade, with the most significant cluster of problems occurring in early 2021, when multiple emergency complaints were filed regarding fire safety equipment including smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, as well as issues with building security (doors), interior surfaces (walls and ceilings), and fire escape safety.

More recently, the building has four open violations from 2021-2024 related to failure to file annual bedbug reports, and various maintenance issues including deteriorated plaster and paint in public areas, and a broken entrance door lock. The building has documented some concerning service history, including a 2018 heat and hot water complaint that was not able to be verified due to lack of access for inspection. There are also two rodent inspections on record from 2013 and 2014, both of which passed.

An investigation into a potential illegal conversion was conducted in 2019, but the inspector was unable to gain access to verify the complaint. Additionally, there appears to be an unresolved violation from 2019 regarding an unfiled boiler inspection report, though this is outside the typical annual cycle for such filings. Despite these issues, it's noteworthy that many of the violations from early 2021 related to emergency safety systems were addressed, as their status changed to "closed" in February 2021, though some ongoing maintenance issues remain outstanding.
