The 15-unit, 4-story New Law tenement at 1791 New York Avenue in Flatlands, built in 1930 and currently owned by Abe Peters, has experienced significant maintenance issues over the past year, particularly regarding heat and hot water systems. Between October and November 2024 alone, there were multiple heat and hot water complaints, with at least three being building-wide issues and several others apartment-specific.

The building has also faced other serious maintenance challenges, including a cluster of pest-related complaints in October 2024, one of which resulted in violations for an infestation of roaches in apartment 1A. Additionally, there were emergency complaints regarding cooking gas issues in October 2024, and multiple violations were issued in October 2024 concerning safety and habitability, including problems with smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, leaky faucets, and heating systems.
