630 East 81st Street, Brooklyn, NY 11236

The three-story, two-family house at 630 East 81st Street in Canarsie, owned by Pansy Smith and built in 1960, experienced a significant cluster of maintenance issues in mid-2019. Beginning in June 2019, there were multiple complaints regarding unsanitary conditions, including pest infestations and mold, with at least two categorized as emergencies.

Other reported issues included problems with the building's ceiling (both in terms of paint/plaster and water leaks), flooring, and an electric/gas range. The Department of Housing Preservation and Development conducted inspections of these complaints and, while no violations were initially issued, several Housing Maintenance Code (HMC) violations were subsequently documented. These violations, identified in late June through July 2019, included the need for repairs to address a bedbug infestation in a second-floor apartment (2NDFL), ceiling and plaster surface repairs in the bathroom, roof repair to prevent leakage, and concrete tread repairs at the building's front.

Additionally, a violation was noted regarding an illegal double cylinder key-operated locking device at the entrance to the second-floor apartment. All these violations were certified as corrected by August 2019, indicating that the building underwent necessary repairs to address these various maintenance issues.
