The two-family house at 113-16 Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica, owned by Mohamed Mothana, has experienced several significant safety and structural issues in recent years. The most critical concerns emerged in early 2024 when serious structural problems were documented, including an active violation regarding a cracked and out-of-plumb parapet.

This structural situation led to a period of building monitoring, though a vacate order was ultimately rescinded by April 2024. During this time, the building was found to have sustained damage, with inspectors noting holes in ceilings and removed windows due to fire operations, though these violations were subsequently dismissed in May 2024. Prior to these structural issues, the building experienced safety concerns in late 2020, when multiple emergency complaints were filed regarding missing or broken safety equipment, including carbon monoxide detectors, smoke detectors, and window guards.

These complaints were all investigated by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), but no violations were ultimately issued and the cases were closed in early 2021. It's worth noting that there were also two construction-related complaints filed in January 2024 for a nearby address (114-35 Sutphin Boulevard), which were inspected but no violations were found in either case. The building, which was constructed in 1910, currently remains classified as a two-family house with two stories.
