The two-family house at 123-15 Sutphin Boulevard in Jamaica, built in 1930 and currently owned by Josette Castillo, has experienced significant maintenance issues in early 2023, particularly in its second-floor apartment. Between January 13-20, 2023, multiple complaints were filed and subsequently investigated by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), including concerns about pests (specifically mice), plumbing issues involving a bathtub/shower, water leaks with heavy flow, door problems, heating and hot water access, appliance functionality (including refrigerator and electric/gas range issues), electrical lighting problems, and flooring concerns.

While no violations were issued in response to these complaints, they were indicative of broader maintenance challenges. A detailed inspection of the second-floor apartment conducted in late January 2023 revealed several violations requiring attention.

These included a lead paint hazard on multiple surfaces, problems with bathtub faucets, various issues with plastered surfaces and paint in different rooms and hallways, and an infestation of mice throughout the apartment. The violations were classified as A, B, or C, indicating varying levels of severity, though all were subsequently marked as closed. While the apartment has experienced a range of maintenance issues, it's important to note that the most recent inspection results indicate these violations were addressed, though the overall frequency and variety of issues in early 2023 suggest ongoing attention to building maintenance may be necessary.
