The two-family house at 143-08 Farmers Boulevard in Jamaica, owned by Michelle Rodson, was constructed in 2005 and is currently experiencing several significant issues. Most notably, in September 2023, Department of Buildings inspectors discovered unauthorized modifications to the property that converted it from a two-family to a four-family residence.

This unauthorized work included the construction of full-height partition walls in the cellar creating two Class A apartments, each with bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen facilities, along with various utility installations including gas lines and electrical wiring. While two additional illegal conversion complaints were filed on September 5-6, 2023, one of which resulted in a partial vacate order being served, the building has incurred no violations as of September 2023. The property has also been the subject of multiple housing maintenance code complaints over the past two years, with a particular recurring issue regarding unsanitary conditions in garbage and recycling storage areas.

Four separate complaints were filed in August 2023, December 2023, and January 2024, all of which were classified as non-emergency and subsequently closed, generally indicating some level of resolution was achieved. While these recurring sanitation issues are concerning, they appear to be the only notable pattern of complaints affecting resident quality of life, apart from the more severe concerns about unauthorized unit conversions and modifications. The most recent complaint about unsanitary conditions in January 2024, like previous complaints, was assigned a non-emergency status and was closed shortly after.
