The two-family house at 51 Brook Street in St. George, owned by Nestor Vergus, has experienced several significant maintenance issues since 2021, with the most pressing concerns relating to rodent infestations and infrastructure problems.

Since 2019, there have been multiple instances of rodent activity, with the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene documenting violations in December 2021 and during inspections from 2019 through 2022 showing consistent rat activity and the need for bait application. The building has also experienced recurring electrical and plumbing issues, including an emergency plumbing problem with a sink in January 2022 (Class C violation) affecting the second-floor apartment, and multiple electrical problems in the first-floor apartment identified in July 2021 that remain open violations. More recent complaints from November 2022 resulted in six separate inspections by the Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), covering issues with electrical wiring, flooring, walls, ceilings, doors, and pest conditions, though none of these inspections resulted in violations being issued.

The building has also been subjected to various infrastructure challenges, including heat and hot water issues, and problems with multiple fixtures such as a leaking bathroom tub faucet (January 2022 violation) and various electrical outlet malfunctions. While many of these issues have been addressed, there are still several open violations from 2021 regarding electrical and flooring problems in both apartments. Most recently, in June 2023, there was a complaint investigation regarding an possible illegal conversion, though access was denied on both attempts to inspect.
