The 6-story, 39-unit apartment building at 1900 Gough Street in Pacific Heights, built in 1937 and currently owned by Switzer Investment LLC, has undergone significant modernization work over the past several years. Between 2022 and 2024, numerous units (105, 106, 201, 304, 305, 306, 501, 502, and 504) received substantial renovations including kitchen conversions, bathroom rehabilitations, and the installation of in-unit washer/dryer facilities, with associated plumbing and electrical upgrades.

Most notably, in 2023-2024, there have been recurring issues with sleeping area requirements, as evidenced by two open violations from 10/24/2023 and 11/30/2023, though other fire safety concerns such as alarm systems and sprinklers were addressed or corrected between 2022-2023. The building has a history of fire safety inspections and violations, with multiple instances requiring attention to sprinklers, exit maintenance, and combustible materials between 2017-2023.

While there have been several fire-related incidents recorded (mostly system malfunctions and smoke scares with no civilian injuries), the property has not experienced any major fire events.
